Sol Food Puerto Rican Cuisine

A very popular restaurant, and I can see why! Fantastic food and great service. Staff was helpful in explaining the menu and recommending dishes. I had the pork chops with garlic fried plantains, and it was amazing. The pique (hot sauce) on the table is a must! It’s not unbearably hot, but it is incredibly tasty!! The coconut pudding with mango is a great finish to the meal!

Delicious! Recommended! Combination plate is good! It comes with rice, beans and fries(you can choose).Orange-mango iced tea, called Ponche was very good!

Sol Food is one of the coolest eateries in town. It has a fun atmosphere and you often meet really interesting people. The menu is unique, they feed you like a king, and best of all its authentic cuisine, using age old family recipes. Do be prepared to wait in line as this is a very popular place for locals and tourists...and well worth the wait.

Best rice and beans ever! Add some avocado and that's a delicious meal for vegetarians. And they have awesome live music outside on the street sometimes. 😊😁

Very noisy, very crowded, average Puerto Rican food. We also go to El Coqui in Santa Rosa which has much better food and atmosphere.

Normally this place has a line out the door at all hours. So I order food to go. But tonight, it was after 11p, raining, there was a short line, so went inside. Everyone super pleasant and the food was great.

Sol Food never disappoints. They make the best salad dressing on the entire planet. It's good on everything. Yeah it's 12 dollars a bottle but once you try it it's the only thing you'll dream about. Night and day.

Good options here for dining or taking out. All plates seem to be big portions of food which is nice if you are hungry. The pepper vinegar sauce is great on all their entree's. They make the sauce in house and bottle it which you can purchase right next door. As well as purchase other items to go.

Delicious dinner, with communal seating. I'm not a fan of cafeteria style ordering, for all that money, we should have servers and private tables. The food was delightful, fresh and hot and their mango tea will tickle your tastebuds, add a few shakes of hot sauce ... oh la la.

I love this place. Sol Food is my absolute favorite place to eat next to cultured caveman in Portland OR. I recommend the limeade, chuletas, vegetariano, plátanos mixtos, tostones con queso, cubano on tostones ... ¡and don't forget the piqué! it's that magical orange liquid in the bottles on the tables. I went here after a Cross Country meet with my team. This is some of the best food I have ever had, good portions, friendly staff, short wait time. Overall a good experience.

Excellent food. Fairly large portions and quick service. Get here between 3-5 for the shortest lines.

The lunch rush won't leave the option to sit and eat for most people, so if you want to dine-in you'll need to show up early. Food was absolutely fantastic.

Fresh and delicious food, great atmosphere, very clean, and excellent service! My husband and I ate here 3 times during our short weekend visit to the area. We will definitely come back again. 😀

My tummy is so happy. Los pasteles were on point, el Pernil was juicy and so tender. Do yourself the favor and go on a Sunday (it's the only day they have Pernil)

Great food always busy the pique sauce is awesome along with the lemon garlic salad dressing both are available for purchase because once you try it you’ll want it on everything all the food is the best I ever had anywhere be prepared to wait but it’s definitely worth it try the bistec sandwich or the rotisserie ribs and the plantains you won’t be disappointed

While the sandwiches are excellent, the platters are where their culinary skills shine. The complex and rich flavors of the shrimp with a tomato, garlic, and onion sauce were so good that I ate a whole platter despite planning to share! Their salad is good as well, and their spicy sweet vinegar sauce is stellar on any dish.

This place is awesome! The atmosphere is very relaxed. The food is excellent! Between the four of us, we tried 4 different dishes. They were all delicious, and the prices were reasonable. I'm definitely looking forward to going back again!

Really enjoyed myself. Had the Po'Boy, sparkling lime, and the fried plantain with cheese. Fast service. Great food. Communal seating, but everyone is respectful of the space. Definitely going again if I'm in the area.

Stopped by this little gem on my way home. Food is excellent and filling. Atmosphere is great. My only problem is the lines and waiting during peak hours can be quite long, which sucks but it is also a sign of a good restaurant with good food. Chicken, Shrimp, or Pork Chops are the best!

Authentic Puerto Rican food with lovely shop next door to take food home!

Personally I don't really get Sol Food and I don't really find the food to be very impressive; in general I find it lacks much spice or flavor. However the execution is consistent, and since I only get it to go these days, I find I can hit it with some spices at home and I'm happy enough. The lines are outrageous, I swear it's the line that attracts people, like it must be good right? But in a city like San Rafael, that's the problem; this is one of the best options for food. My other big gripe is the lack of alcohol; a beer would make it go down a lot better. Still, 4 stars for being in the tough digs of San Rafael, the north bay's food wasteland.

I love your food guys, but where is my PASTELON DE CARNE??? Why it is not in the menu anymore? Please bring it back and please offer Decaf coconut latte also. I must be odd man out. My daughter thinks this is the greatest place ever, she made me drive 34 miles to eat here. I found it to be OK maybe slightly above average. But looking at the line outside I must be missing something.

This spot is fantastic and spacious, the menu was yummy and the prices were very fair. quick, productive service and very welcoming staff members. Highly recommended.

Delicious! There was a line to get in but it moved quickly. You just have to get use to having to sometimes, when it's very crowded, share your table with complete strangers. It's a good way to meet people.

Must eat here once a week (their late hrs help). Generally, not a fan of pork rib. However, their spit-roasted ribs are outstanding. Good Pueto Rican style food. Good prices. Their limeade and orange juice are house made and great. Can be crowded both at take away and dine in. Call in and pick up can be useful.

Update to my original review: Sol Food reached out to us to fix the problem so we are excited to go back again. Mistakes happen and they owned up to it. Thank you Sol Food!Original review:5 stars for the food but negative 20 for what happened to us. As we're packing up our food after we're done eating, one of the waiters threw a dirty soda can on my plate! Absolutely disgusting. He said he thought we were done but nobody did anything to fix it. They just expected us to eat the food anyway. Even the manager walked away without a word. It's fine to make a mistake but own up to it, apologize, and fix it. It's a real shame that they prioritize pushing customers out the door to make room for the next people over cleanliness and customer service. Again I love the food here and we used to come all the time but today was our last visit here.

Sol food is a very casual spot. The food is always fresh and delicious and the service quick. The restaurant is noisy though so it's not a place for a quiet intimate meal. I love that the menu is basically gluten free.

Sol Food has the best food!! Their menu has a good variety of options, and even some vegan items. The iced coconut latte is incredible, and their plantain chips are also definitely worth trying!! I love their plates and sandwiches, and it is a super filling meal for a good price.

This place is excellent all across the board! Their plantains take you on a journey to the islands. They're lightly fried to perfection, and they let the natural flavor speak for itself. The highlight of their sandwich menu is definitely the Bistec. The creamy avocado perfectly contrasts the steak; pair that with their delicious sauce and add an egg, and you'll have one of the best sandwiches on Earth! The menu also has plenty of salads and combo plates to choose from. From my experience, the workers were super cool and friendly. I’ve been here several times now and don’t have a single bad thing to say about it! The atmosphere is incredible and the food is delicious. Absolutely worth the wait if there is a line (it goes pretty fast!)

Liked the interior, the place is nice and having the vibe it should keep. The food was good, must try the plantains chips/fritters.

We've been here a few times and always make a stop here when we are in the area. It's first come first serve kind of place. You line up and order your food on the front then find your own table, a lot of times community table style. All the foods are solid, we never had bad ones here! Our favorites are the pork ribs, rotisserie chicken, and the thin steak. Don't forget to get the té helado! So good and refreshing.

Best Puerto Rican you can get on west coast maybe anywhere!!! Just haven't been to enough outside of Cali to say. We drive 2hrs to eat at this place and it's worth it ever time.
